History of Jensen’s Twin Palm Marina and Cottages®

Jensen's Twin Palm Marina and Cottages® traces its history back to the 1920s, when the hospitality industry in Southwest Florida was starting to take off.

With the expansion of rail travel, more people were discovering the charm of Captiva Island. Although the property has had various owners and names over the years, some things have remained constant: stunning sunsets, excellent fishing, and great fun.

Our First
Vacation Cottage

The property's first vacation cottage was built in 1928 on Pine Island Sound and still stands. During the 1940s and '50s, Doanes Twin Palm saw a boom in cottage construction. The Doanes family ran the Marina for several decades and built 14 cottages that still host guests and maintain their retro beachy charm.

Island Tours
and Water Taxi Rides

Doanes Twin Palm soon began offering island tours and water taxi rides, which continue thrilling generations of visitors.

Our History
Begins in 1977

In 1977, Red and Betty Jensen purchased the marina property, now known as Jensen's Twin Palm Marina and Cottages®. Since then, guests from various backgrounds have enjoyed the Marina and its amenities. Famous personalities such as John F. Kennedy Jr., Danny Devito, Ted Turner, Kevin Costner, and Rob Lowe have also spent their leisure time at Jensen's Marina®.
